Statistics in the Pacific

The region’s policy-makers and analysts depend on access to timely and accurate demographic, economic and social indicators to support their work. The Statistics for Development Division (SDD) aims to strengthen the capacity of national statistical systems and social and economic planning agencies to supply this data.

Technical Assistance and Training

A core role for SDD is to provide technical assistance and training, either through our professional attachment programme or regular regional workshops. We help establish good data collection systems to improve the quantity and quality of data, indicators and reports being published

Civil Registration and Vital Statistics

SDD is leading the efforts for improving Civil Registration systems in the Pacific to accurately record all births and deaths and increase the rate of issuing birth and death certificates. We are a member of the Brisbane Accord Group which was established in 2010 to coordinate, facilitate and support investments in the region through collaborative activities.
