Seven enumerators were recently recruited for the up-coming Wallis and Futuna Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) following a campaign from the 25th September to the 2nd of October 2019 (4 for Wallis and 3 for Futuna).

From the 14th until the 25th of October, two SPC staff (a household survey specialist and a data processing specialist) spent two weeks in Wallis training these enumerators, in preparation for the survey. This consisted of 1) briefing enumerators and supervisors in regards to the survey fieldwork and 2) familiarising enumerators with a new method of data collection. Tablets will be used for the first time to enable data-entry in the field, which is a significant innovation compared to the last HIES in 2005/2006 when the whole survey was conducted on paper.

From the list of 3,067 households enumerated in 2018, an initial list of 1,008 households was randomly selected. To mitigate possible risks of refusal or absence, the sample was increased by 10% resulting in a total of 1,109 households.
