As part of the regional activities of the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics, the Statistics for Development Division (SDD) at SPC, together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation (FAO) are organizing a Regional Training Workshop on the use of Geographical Information Systems for the conduct of agricultural and population censuses and surveys. The workshop will be held in Noumea, New Caledonia from 19–23 November 2018 and is targeted towards people who are currently, or plan to be, involved in GIS related activities such as updating Enumeration Area frameworks, undertaking household listings, drafting/producing field maps and/or managing teams in the field during collections in the next few years. General skills required are the following:

  • Some basic GIS experience – an individual who has already worked with GIS applications such as ESRI ArcView/ArcInfo/ArcMap, Mapinfo or QGIS.
  • Comfortable working with Excel.
  • Some basic experience collecting spatial data with GPS units, tablets or other methods.
