This training is a Peer-to-Peer technical collaborative exchange between Fiji Bureau of Statistics and Statistics for Development Division to the Papua New Guinea National Statistical Office on the compilation of International Merchandise Trade Statistics (IMTS) using best practice.

The collaborative exchange will be for 2 weeks and will include:

  1. Training to strengthen compilation methodology and address capacity gaps.  That will be attended by the NSO and its stakeholders, and
  2. Hands-on experience in trade data compilation to be given to the PNG NSO IMTS compilers.

The Peer-to-Peer facilitation will be provided by Fiji, them being the obvious choice as it is the only country in the Region that has finished the compilation of all the 14 recommended IMTS Tables, including the numerous tables on goods traded under the different preferential trade agreements e.g. MSG.  There are also many commonalities between the two countries.

The expected outcome is to improve IMTS data quality, analysis and packaging in readiness for the PNG NSO as the only official source to deliver user focused IMTS.
