4th Pacific Statistics Methods Board (PSMB) Meeting - Oct 2019

Introduction

The fourth meeting of the Pacific Statistics Methods Board (PSMB) will occur from 28 to 29 November, 2019, at the Pacific Community (SPC) in Noumea, New Caledonia.

Expected outcomes

The meeting will cover the following topics:

1. Approaches to monetary poverty measurement
   The World Bank will present the draft guidelines for monetary poverty measurent, which is used for reporting against SDG 1.1.1 and 1.2.1 (international and national monetary poverty, respectively), and to discuss similar/alternative approaches implemented in the Pacific region and their differences.
2. Approaches to multidimentional poverty measurement
   The Government of Tonga will present on different approaches to multidimensional poverty measurement, which is used for reporting against SDG 1.2.2, and to discuss similar/alternative approaches implemented in the Pacific region and their differences.
3. Approaches to conduct of census in the Pacific region and the future of census
   UNFPA will present on the Pacific Population and Housing Census framework. ILO will present on the recently developed Labour Force Module, which is tailored for implementation in census. Nauru will present on the future of census in the Pacific region. These presentations will guide approaches and methodological development for the conduct of census in the Pacific region and under the 2020 round of Population and Housing Census.

The meeting will also review and discuss other statistical development initiatives and methodologies.
