The Ministry of Justice of Fiji, in partnership with the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Bloomberg Data for Health Initiative (D4H), is collaboratively embarking on a targeted review of the legal framework for Fiji’s Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system.
It is essential that outdated or conflicting legislative provisions are systematically reviewed and amended, and that newly enacted legislation is designed with inherent flexibility to respond effectively to evolving socio-legal and technological contexts.
The key objectives of the inception workshop are as follows:
Contextual overview
- Present the program’s relevance to Fiji’s civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) priorities.
- Position this Review within the context of other CRVS improvement initiatives that have occurred in Fiji
- Outline the support provided by partners such as Bloomberg Philanthropies, Ministry of Justice and the SPC
Align Stakeholders on National Vision and Priorities
- Facilitate a shared understanding of Fiji’s strategic priorities in strengthening CRVS and health data systems.
- Highlight how this Review will complement and reinforce existing national frameworks and sectoral strategies.
Review and Confirm the Project Scope and Work Plan
- Present the initial work plan, including proposed technical activities, implementation timelines, and expected deliverables.
- Seek stakeholder feedback to validate and refine the scope, ensuring it meets the national context and needs.
- Confirm co-ordination mechanism as Ministry of Justice and the Fiji CRVS Committee
Promote National Ownership and Engagement
- Foster commitment from national stakeholders through inclusive dialogue and transparent planning.
- Encourage leadership and accountability to ensure long-term success and sustainability of the program interventions.
