The Pacific Group on Disability Statistics (PGDS) plays a critical role in strengthening the availability, quality, and use of disability data across Pacific Island countries. Reliable and inclusive statistics are essential for evidence-based policy-making, monitoring progress on disability inclusion, and ensuring no one is left behind.
As the PGDS moves into its 2026 planning cycle, the Steering Committee will convene in person to review progress, set strategic priorities, and coordinate regional and country-level activities. A key focus will be on building national capacity for disability data collection and use, enhancing country engagement, and supporting the implementation of the Regional Disability Statistics Guidebook.
Objectives
Review progress made in 2025, including key achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
Identify strategic priorities for 2026 aligned with national and regional disability inclusion goals.
Develop implementation plan of the Regional Disability Statistics Guidebook across member countries.
Coordinate activities and resources to ensure effective delivery and monitoring of PGDS initiatives.
Align the PGDS goals and work with the international Washington Group on Disability Statistics.
Update the PGDS project multi-year work plan activities.
