The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Week is designed to ensure that member countries are well‑prepared to engage meaningfully in key regional and international commitments and dialogues. This overarching purpose is consistently reflected across several internal documents and communications.
In 2026, GESI Week will be delivered in two parts:
- Part One (9–13 February): Preparatory sessions for upcoming regional and global engagements.
- Part Two (16–18 February): Disability inclusion consultations focused on the Pacific Framework on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (PFRPD) and the Pacific Youth Development Framework (PYDF).
These consultations will bring together PIF government disability focal points and representatives from Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) to strengthen collaboration and advance inclusive development priorities.
Objectives
- Strengthen members’ readiness for major regional and global engagements, including gender and disability‑related commitments.
- Support meaningful participation in intergovernmental processes by offering preparatory sessions, information‑sharing, and coordination discussions.
- Advance disability inclusion, including consultations on the Pacific Framework on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (PFRPD) and the Pacific Youth Development Framework (PYDF).
- Bring together key stakeholders—government focal points, Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), gender focal points, CROP agencies, and partners—to strengthen collaboration.
