National Statistical Systems and Strategies

As part of its goal to promote strong Pacific Island statistical systems, SDD has developed a central set of national statistical system profiles in active partnership with Pacific Island countries and territories.

The aim is to make information available how Pacific Island countries and territories are implementing good practices, such as the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics, and to support countries in strengthening their national statistical system. The profiles are intended to be used by Pacific Island governments, national statistics offices (NSOs), planners, other data producers and users, SPC, and donors and development partners.

Each profile covers:

  • Vision and policy intent of each countries’ statistical system, drawn from the national strategy for development of statistics (NSDS), if available
  • National statistical system history, legal basis, national statistics office, data providers and users
  • Key features relating to data collection, dissemination and statistical ICT infrastructure
  • Co-ordination responsibilities and processes for statistical activities
  • Challenges, priorities and opportunities within each country or territory, based on published reports and evaluations.

Information in profiles will be updated periodically by SPC and member countries and further profiles and strategies will be added as they become available.
