About Yohannes
Trained as an economist and demographer (PhD, MPhil, MA and B.Econ), Yohannes’s professional identity weaves together teaching, research and practice in epidemiology, demography, and economics. His work experience spans four world regions—Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Oceania—and multiple institutional settings. In Australia, Yohannes held positions as an Associate Professor, Senior Research Fellow, and Research Fellow at the Australian National University, the University of Queensland, and the University of Canberra.
His previous roles include officer-in-charge of the World Health Statistics at the World Health Organization in Geneva and as an Associate Professor of Population Medicine at Qatar University. He also held affiliate and visiting academic positions at the University of Oxford, the University of Washington, the United Nations University, and the Melbourne Children’s Research Institute at the Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital.
