Births and deaths

Birth and death numbers, usually reported annually, tell us how many babies were born and how many people died in a population in the reference period. This data may come from different sources, including census and survey collections, civil registration or health information systems.

A death certificate is a permanent record of the fact of and characteristics of death. It provides important personal information about the decedent, the circumstances and cause of death and serves as the main source of mortality statistics for a country.
