The workshop's ultimate goal is to contribute to the long-term goal of enhancing the capacity of Pacific Island states to produce accurate, timely, and sufficiently disaggregated population and demographic statistics, both country-owned and country-generated, that provide the needed data for driving and achieving country aspirations.

The Papua New Guinea Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Action Plan (2020 - 2021) was developed to support the Government of Papua New Guinea in achieving a coordinated approach to the development of the CRVS system in the country. The COVID19 global pandemic and shifting priorities mean that the Action Plan gained little traction.
